Christmas Present

So, either the boyfriend was bluffing when he said that my choices for a Christmas present were not good enough OR he gave up on looking for something different and decided to get me what I had picked.
So yay!
Oh, and Happy New Year!!!!

Pre-Fall(ing)

I'm sure that everyone out there who is interested in fashion and wants to be or is a part of it, takes a great amount of pleasure whenever it's runway season ... including the pre's.
Hey, it's like a forecast/preview of what we will see in a couple of months on the FW11 runways (which kicks off on Feb. 10th with NYFW, fyi).

Sometimes, these pre collections make it or break it for some of us ... you know what I mean.
And unfortunately, there is ONE designer though that totally broke it for me.

I've always been a fan of Diane von Furstenberg and actually saved up $500+ USD to buy a DVF maxi dress a couple of seasons ago (and then found it like at 70% off, yay for extra money!), but this pre-fall collection scared me.

I know the 70s are making a huge comeback, and I'm okay with it.
(Personally, I still prefer the 50s+80s combo I've been falling in love with for some months now.)
But I digress. I understand that DVF's inspiration was, as creative director Yvan Mispelaere says, "the glorious American sportswear of the 1970's ... Diane's focus, then as now, is on the working girl, and easy clothes to go to work with."
However, I still can't help but just seeing Daphne from Scooby Doo popping up in every single outfit of the pre-fall collection.
I'm afraid, because while MAYBE I would wear SOME pieces of the collection ... I would see this as collection as a bit costumey and tired.
Pfff..

And ... I'm too lazy to translate my rant. Sorry!

Long Overdue

The boyfriend has been racking his brain trying to figure out what to get me for Christmas ... unfortunately, my suggestion of getting me a compilation of Jane Austen books and some Beatles and The Who CDs was deemed as a not-good-enough present.
Oh well, let's see what he comes up with ... at least I was able to convince him to accompany me to see The Nutcracker -- the Ballet de Monterrey is very, very good; and I'm happy to say, he loved it!
He asked me to tell him when the next ballet will be, so that we can go. Yay!!

Yay!!

The Eagle and the Virus

So, as you may have read in that little box to the right of this post, I am an Industrial Design major in college. This means that a lot of my projects require using some type of CAD program ... this in turn means I need a USB to always have that information with me ... this means that all the other Industrial Design and Architecture students have USB ... that's over 500 people for maybe 100 computers.
There was a virus recently, and my USB didn't make it out alive, so I avoided using it. However, a friend promised his USB had no virus and he put it in my laptop ... as you can guess, my laptop now has a virus thanks to his USB.
This virus also messed up my camera's memory card and I have to wait until after Friday to get it fixed, all because of final exams. This deserves a Fuck My Life award.
On other news, the boyfriend is back and he brought me a beautiful ring from Cupertino, California.
Oh, and today it's 18 months of us being together!

Ah, y hoy cumplimos 18 meses juntos!

Para el Sábado

The boyfriend has been in Cupertino, California since the 10th of this month ... and at last, he's supposed to be getting here tomorrow!!
Words cannot explain how much I have missed him these past two weeks, but finally I get to be with him, if only for a couple of hours.
Good thing is that we don't have school tomorrow anymore ... that's right, classes are OVER. Now, all we have to do is worry about finals. May God have mercy on me and my procrastination.
I leave you with a couple of photos of what I wore Saturday night to have dinner with some of my best friends.

Interesting Fact, Allure

"Women who often wear high heels may experience anatomical changes in their legs. Researchers studied women who wore heels at least two inches high for an average of 60 hours per week. Compared with women who almost always wore flats, they had shorter calf-muscle fibers and thicker, stiffer Achilles tendons. These changes cause the ankle joint to have a smaller range of motion and make flat shoes less comfortable, says Marco Narici, professor of physiology at the Institute for Biomedical Research Into Human Movement and Health at Manchester Metropolitan University in England..."

Maybe this explains the fact that I've recently become bowlegged?
Either way, I treated myself to two new pairs of shoes the weekend before this one :P
Early Christmas presents, you see...

Surprise, surprise!!
Sorpresa, sorpresa!!

How To, How To ...

I got this amazing blouse for $10 at a thrift store (I am addicted).
It was a great find, seriously.
Now I just have to find a way to wear it ... because mother was not happy when she saw me try to walk out of the house wearing this blouse with a bright pink bandeau top underneath.

I've been dying to wear something more geared towards cold-weather than just my faux fur vest from Zara (which I am not, by any means, setting aside until next spring) and, today is finally the day!
Sometimes I'm amazed by what one can find in a thrift store... but I suppose that that "one man's trash is another man's treasure" quote is 100% true.

Y Tú a Tus 30, ¿Princesa?

This is a video of a typical dance from Venezuela.
All I understand is "pavorreal", which means peacock.
By the way, I recorded this at EXPOTEC.

Y Tú a Tus 30, ¿Princesa?

Tuesday of last week marked the beginning of one of the biggest events of the year here in my university (and city).
This event is called EXPOTEC and its purpose is to bring together all the different cultures that are represented on campus. Students from each state of the country and international students who have chosen the ITESM as their alma mater showcase their culture during this week.
Students are encouraged to even show off what their country/state is like.
While walking down the Pabellón, one has the opportunity to experience many different cultures and, for those of us who are not from this city (or state or country), one has the opportunity to relive and remember what home looks and smells like.
There are food stands from almost every state (my favorite food stand is the one from the state of Oaxaca, I cannot get enough tlayudas) and a bunch of other Latin American countries (the most popular one being the one from El Salvador).
However, even though it is a competition to see which state/country gets the most awards (my state, Tamaulipas, has gotten the most awards for a couple of years now, actually), EXPOTEC is one week in which everyone becomes one.
All the students want to represent their culture as an individual one but, while doing so, we all actually become a whole.
After all, the only way for people from Tamaulipas to eat crickets from Oaxaca is for the people of Oaxaca to eat goat-in-blood from Tamaulipas.

The Baja California stand ... it won Best Stand, Best Student Association and Best Party Stand. Even though it's not my state, congrats to them!/El stand de Baja California ... ganaron Mejor Stand, Mejor Asociación Estudiantil y Mejor Ambiente.

Nicaragua: a close runner-up to Best Stand/Nicaragua: casi ganaba Mejor Stand

 TLAYUDAS!!

A dance from Holland/Un baile de Holanda.

A dance from Venezuela/Un baile de Venezuela.

Para el Día de Ayer

Alright, so just in case you were wondering: going bowling with a bandeau top underneath your blouse is NOT a good idea -.-'
But I still liked the outfit... so I can't really complain.
