Y Tú a Tus 30, ¿Princesa?

This is a video of a typical dance from Venezuela.
All I understand is "pavorreal", which means peacock.
By the way, I recorded this at EXPOTEC.

Lo único que entiendo es "pavorreal".
Por cierto, lo grabé en EXPOTEC.

Y Tú a Tus 30, ¿Princesa?

Tuesday of last week marked the beginning of one of the biggest events of the year here in my university (and city).
This event is called EXPOTEC and its purpose is to bring together all the different cultures that are represented on campus. Students from each state of the country and international students who have chosen the ITESM as their alma mater showcase their culture during this week.
Students are encouraged to even show off what their country/state is like.
While walking down the Pabellón, one has the opportunity to experience many different cultures and, for those of us who are not from this city (or state or country), one has the opportunity to relive and remember what home looks and smells like.
There are food stands from almost every state (my favorite food stand is the one from the state of Oaxaca, I cannot get enough tlayudas) and a bunch of other Latin American countries (the most popular one being the one from El Salvador).
However, even though it is a competition to see which state/country gets the most awards (my state, Tamaulipas, has gotten the most awards for a couple of years now, actually), EXPOTEC is one week in which everyone becomes one.
All the students want to represent their culture as an individual one but, while doing so, we all actually become a whole.
After all, the only way for people from Tamaulipas to eat crickets from Oaxaca is for the people of Oaxaca to eat goat-in-blood from Tamaulipas.

The Baja California stand ... it won Best Stand, Best Student Association and Best Party Stand. Even though it's not my state, congrats to them!/El stand de Baja California ... ganaron Mejor Stand, Mejor Asociación Estudiantil y Mejor Ambiente.

Nicaragua: a close runner-up to Best Stand/Nicaragua: casi ganaba Mejor Stand

 TLAYUDAS!!

Clothes from the Estado de México/Ropa del Estado de México.

A dance from Holland/Un baile de Holanda.

A dance from Venezuela/Un baile de Venezuela.

Part of the Tamaulipas stand. We'll get our awards back next year!!/Parte del stand Tamaulipeco. El próximo año recuperaremos nuestros premios!!

Designer Close-Up: Vero Solís

So, I'm sure we've all wondered something very specific at some point of our lives: what requirements must be met to be considered a Good fashion designer?

Many have different views as to what does this: popularity, contacts, money, talent, etc.
But it most be noted that Good fashion designers are everywhere: locally, state-wide, nationally and internationally.
So in my opinion, talent is the one and only thing that can make anyone a Good fashion designer.

There is one Mexican designer whose fashion sense and fashion-forward pieces I especially enjoy wearing, and thus consider her as a rather Good fashion designer: Vero Solís.
The talent she possesses is out of this world.
I will leave you with photos of the Vero Solís pieces I own and with some photos of her Spring-Summer 2010 line, so you can see her work.

If you are ever in Mexico, I urge you to visit Monterrey and ask around and find one of her shops.
You’ll truly enjoy the shopping experience in one of her boutiques.

Whenever I wear this, a lot of people ask me if I got it at a "chic boutique" in NYC.

Such a great summery piece.
Un grandioso vestidito veraniego.

So Beatles-esque.
Me recuerda tanto a Los Beatles.

And this is the newest addition to my Vero Solís family. His name is Eli.

Thank you Vero Solís for allowing me to do this post!

Yay!!! It's sunny outside again!!!! :D
So of course I took the opportunity to wear my big, red, floppy hat --that I bought in Oaxaca-- again.
Where did I go? The supermarket, we needed some chicken.
I think it's kind of sad how nowadays so many people decide that sweatpants/shorts + tennis shoes + "bebe" shirts are propper attire for the banal things.
Maybe that's not so where you live, but many women in Monterrey have decided that this is totally acceptable, even popular!
I've seen my share of terrible velour sweatpants with "Juicy" stamped accross the ass to ever want to wear one myself.

Oh, and by the way, people stared at me the whole time I was in there.
I wish someone had taken a photo.
I must have looked so funny next to them.

Since Saturday we have been able to go out; the city is almost destroyed and people are flocking to the malls and the movies.
It's like going to the Toy Story 3 premiere all over again.
But at least we get to take our minds off what has happened here these last couple of days.
I was just SO happy to see my boyfriend again, I missed him like crazy!!

Moving is the synonym of Nightmare

Today I took ALL my shoes to the new house. Every.
Single.
Pair.

And believe me when I tell you that it was no easy task.
Getting them into my car was so tedious. Going in and out of the apartment to get all the boxes in the trunk, the back seat, and the front seat was no fun.
This is what my car ended up looking like:

Then, once I arrived at the new house, I had to unload all the boxes...
and then: get them up the first flight of [25] stairs onto the first floor, and then up the second flight of [18] stairs onto the second floor.
I don't know when was the last time I sweat so much. Well, maybe I do, but in case younglings read this, it's best not to go into details ;)
This is what the first flight of stairs looked like:

Once we're actually settled into the new house, I'll try to make my first vlog and show ya'll my new closet :D
